The 75th Emmy Awards didn't have many surprises. The expected winners, like Succession, The Bear, and Beef, took home most of the awards. The In Memoriam part, where they remember people who passed away, stood out because they played the Friends theme song. It was a nice gesture for Matthew Perry, but the song isn't really sad.
Succession, The Bear, and Beef won a lot in their categories, leaving only a few wins for other shows. Jennifer Coolidge, Paul Walter Hauser, Quinta Brunson, and Niecy Nash-Betts were among the few who won for their performances in different shows. Some people thought Ted Lasso or The Last Of Us might win, but it didn't happen.
Jennifer Coolidge won again for her role in The White Lotus. This was tough for Better Call Saul fans because the show, despite being highly praised, didn't win any awards in its six-season run. Rhea Seehorn, who played Kim Wexler, didn't get the recognition many hoped for.
Instead of playing music to stop long speeches, they had the host's mother stand up and shout at the winners. It was awkward, especially when it happened to Jennifer Coolidge. Thankfully, they didn't continue with this idea. It might not have been the best choice.
The Emmys did well in acknowledging and awarding Black actors. Ayo Edebiri, Quinta Brunson, and Niecy Nash-Betts were among the first winners on stage. The ceremony also celebrated 75 years of Emmys, including iconic figures like Arsenio Hall and Marla Gibbs.
Elton John received an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) for his special Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium. This is a rare accomplishment in the entertainment world.
The show took time to remember the history of TV, with some moments working well, like seeing old sets and reunions. However, some parts felt a bit forced, like a skit with Anthony Anderson and Dylan McDermott about American Horror Story. Overall, the event gets a decent grade for its celebration of television history.
